Prior to attempting Carpet Stain Removal
- Scrape up solids immediately
- Deal with the spillage, don’t allow the stain to dry

- Never use high alkaline on wool carpets, it will cause damage

Asphalt
- Remove as much as possible with scraper or knife.
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent or white spirit onto a cloth or kitchen roll towel. Always working towards the centre, blot
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water and blot
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer to assist drying.
Bleach
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Rinse with cold water, then blot
- Seek from professional carpet cleaner
Blood
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Rinse with cold water
- Apply solution of ammonia, blot (not recommended on wool)
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water and blot
- Rinse thoroughly and dry
- If stain persists reduce with 3-5% hydrogen peroxide, allow 20 minutes
- Repeat steps 4 and 5.
Blue Tack
- Break up as much blue tack as possible
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent or white spirit blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel.
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer for final drying.
Burns
- Rub carpet yarn with coin
- Rub gently with coarse sand paper
Butter & margarine
- Scoop up as much butter or margarine
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent or white spirit blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel.
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water and blot
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer for final drying.
Candle wax
- Needed, Iron, nappy or old towel aluminium foil.
- Melt wax with iron over foil placed over nappy or towel (care should be taken on synthetic fibres otherwise may cause damage).
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent or white spirit
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer for final drying.
Chewing gum
- Needed, Iron, nappy or old towel aluminium foil.
- Place wet towel over wax separate towel and hot iron with foil to melt the wax (care should be taken on synthetic fibres otherwise may cause damage).
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer for final drying.
Coffee
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Rinse cold water
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar r in one litre of tepid water.
- Apply 1/3 white cleaning vinegar and 2/3 cup of water
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer for final drying.
Chocolate
- Remove as much of the chocolate.
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water and blot
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent or white spirit
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer for final drying.
Coke and fizzy cold drinks
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water and blot
- If stain persists reduce with 3-5%, hydrogen peroxide allow 20 minutes.
- Repeat steps 2 Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer for final drying.
Cooking oils
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel, the use of a rubber mallet pound the stain this will help the cloth absorb much more of the oil.
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent or white spirit onto a cloth or kitchen roll towel. Always working towards the centre, blot
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water and blot
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer to assist drying.
Cream
- Scoop up as much cream
- One teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water.
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer to assist drying.
Egg
- Remove as much egg from carpet
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water and blot
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer to assist drying.
Faeces
- Remove as much faeces from carpet
- Rinse with cold water
- Apply solution of ammonia, blot (not recommended on wool)
- One teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry
- If stain persists reduce with 3-5% hydrogen peroxide, allow 20 minutes
- Repeat steps 4 and 5.
Fruit juices
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar r in one litre of tepid water.
- If stain persists reduce with 3-5%, hydrogen peroxide allow 20 minutes.

Furniture polish (fresh only

Gravy & sauces
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel

Ink ball-point
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Apply surgical spirits (ethyl alcohol or ethanol) onto a cloth or kitchen roll towel. Always working towards the centre, blot
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water, blot
- If stain persists reduce with 3-5%, hydrogen peroxide allow 20 minutes.
- Repeat steps 3. Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer for final drying.
Ink felt- tip
- One teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water.
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent turpentine or white spirit blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry
- If stain persists reduce with 3-5% hydrogen peroxide, allow 20 minutes

Lipstick
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent turpentine or white spirit blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel.
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry
- If stain persists reduce with 3-5% hydrogen peroxide, allow 20 minutes
- Repeat steps 4
Nail polish
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Apply nail polish (acetone) remover onto a white cloth or kitchen roll towel and blot
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry
- If stain persists reduce with 3-5% hydrogen peroxide, allow 20 minutes
- Repeat steps 3 and 4.
Oil & grease
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel,
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent or white spirit onto a cloth or kitchen roll towel. Always working towards the centre, blot

Paint (oil based)
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent turpentine or white spirit blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel.
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry
Paint (acrylic)
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent turpentine or white spirit blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel.
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry
Rust
- Apply 1/3 white cleaning vinegar and 2/3 cup of water
- Seek professional carpet cleaner if unsuccessful.
Play Dough
- Break up as much blue tack as possible
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent or white spirit blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel.
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer for final drying.
Salad dressing
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water and blot
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent or white spirit
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer for final drying.
Shoe polish
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Apply a dry cleaning solvent turpentine or white spirit blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel.
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry
Soot
- Vacuum
- One teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry
Tea
- Blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel
- Rinse cold water
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar r in one litre of tepid water.
- Apply 1/3 white cleaning vinegar and 2/3 cup of water
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer for final drying.
Tomato sauce
- blot as much of the tomato sauce
- Rinse with tepid water
- Apply one teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water and blot
- Rinse with water, blot with cloth or kitchen roll towel then use hair dryer for final drying.
Urine (fresh)
- Blot and rinse with cold water
- One teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water.
- Rinse with house hold disinfectant
URINE (old)
- Will require professional carpet cleaner
Vomit
- Remove as much vomit from carpet
- Rinse with cold water
- Apply solution of ammonia, blot (not recommended on wool)
- One teaspoon of wool detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in one litre of tepid water.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry
- If stain persists reduce with 3-5% hydrogen peroxide, allow 20 minutes
